Tim believes love is love. He applauded the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges that extended the right to marry to every American, regardless of sexual orientation.
Tim knows that equality in the eyes of the law is not enough–we must do everything we can to fight institutionalized discrimination. That’s why he is an original cosponsor of the Equality Act, which bars discrimination against the LGBTQ community in public accommodations including housing, employment, education, jury duty, and financial assistance.
Tim is also a cosponsor of the Safe Schools Improvement Act, which requires schools to adopt codes of conduct to prohibit bullying and harassment on the grounds of sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, color, and religion.
Tim knows that anti-harassment legislation like the Tyler Clementi Higher Education Act, which requires universities and colleges receiving federal funding to prohibit harassment, is a step in the right direction. Still, he believes there is much work to be done to ensure the LGBTQ community is shielded from discrimination in all facets of American life.
Tim believes that no one should be discriminated against in their workplace due to who they love or how they identify, he is a strong supporter of the latest U.S. Supreme Court decision protecting workers based on sexual orientation. Tim has been vocal against workplace discrimination, such as the military transgender ban, and supported a House amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act reversing the White House’s 2017 ban on transgender service members.
